Came across this article about the physical symptoms of depression@WebMD that runs through 9 symptoms that could be the sign of a depression.
For many years I’ve felt worn out and have been referring to it as a depressive state rather than use the term depression because it wasnt something that I’ve had diagnosed by a doctor.
So how many of these 9 physical symptoms of depression was I experiencing?
- Headaches – yep, I had never really had headaches before but the past few years I’ve had several – including some really painful ones
- Back pain – yep, I had never had problems with my back before but these past years I’ve had several episodes where back pains have kept me in bed because it was too painful to get out of bed
- Muscle aches and joint pain – No joint pains, but plenty of muscle aches that I usually attributed to a cold or the flu
- Chest pain – yep, no episodes of chest pain ever before but these past years I’ve had a few periods where my chest would tension up
- Digestive problems – no – the digestive system appears to be running as it always have
- Exhaustion and fatigue – yep, being tired, lethargic, without energy no matter how much sleep I got
- Sleeping problems – no – have always been able to go to bed, tug myself under the covers and be fast asleep within the minute
- Change in appetite or weight – yep, added 10 more kilo to an already 20 kilo overweight during the past year because I couldn’t keep away from chocolate and candy
- Dizziness or lightheadedness – no – no problems at all with being dizzy
So, I scored 6/9 on physical symptoms of depression :-(
The point here really is to keep track of your physical state to get an indication of your mental state as well
