Just read a post by Melissa Maples over at TotallyHer about coming back to fitness after a break.

Can’t really say it’s describing my situation because 10+ years of inactivity can’t really be considered a break, but the principles still hold true.

The idea of taking it easy in the beginning to let the body get used to the presure you’re putting on it is vital if you wan’t to avoid getting injured.

It’s all too easy to get carried away in an attempt to go from zero to 100 in the least possible time, but you, just like your car, will take damage if you push the pedal to the metal with a cold engine.

And the last thing you want is a blown up engine – or an injury.

So take it easy when you’re just starting out again with your excercises, put more emphasis on warming up and listen to what your body is telling you about how you’re straining it.
