I had a physical check-up this week where I had my height, weight, BMI, belly circumference, body fat percentage, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar and VO2Max measured.

The only things that came out fine was my blood pressure and blood sugar level – the rest of the numbers ranged from bad over horrible to scary.

I weighed in at 104,9 which is significantly higher than what I get on my own scale at home.

BMI

BMI: 32,4

That’s Obese no matter where you look. And I definately don’t have a muscle-filled body that would artificially inflate my BMI – simply put, I’m overweight, fat, obese and my health is at risk.

I’m in the worst bracket on the chart I’ve got.

Belly circumference

Belly circumference: 110 cm

The chart I’m looking at puts me in the group of hish risk of cardiovascular disseases since I’m wider than 102 cm – and I would have to be slimmer than 94 cm to be in the Low risk of cardiovascular dissease.

I’m in the worst bracket on the chart I’ve got.

Body Fat Percentage

Body Fat Percentage: 28,9%

The chart I got lists me as Significantly Elevated

I’m in the worst bracket on the chart I’ve got.

Blood Pressure

Systolic BP: 122 mmHg
Diastolic BP: 76 mmHg

That’s Normal, bordering Optimal

So, finally, a measurement that I shouldn’t worry about.

Cholesterol

Total cholesterol: 6,8 mmol/l
HDL cholesterol: 0,9 mmol/l
LDL cholesterol: 4,6 mmol/l

Total cholesterol is Moderately Elevated

HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol was oddly enough not listed with any rankings except that HDL cholesterol should be above 1 (which it isn’t) and LDL cholesterol should be below 3 which is definitely isn’t.

Triglycerides

Triglycerides: 2,8 mmol/l

A triglyceride level above is considered Moderately Elevated on the chart I got – and it needs to be less than 1,7 mmol/l to become Ideal.

Blood sugar

Blood sugar: 5,6 mmol/l

Normal levels is between 4 and 6,1, so my fasting blood sugar is right where it should be.

VO2Max

VO2Max: 30,5 ml/kg/min

According to my chart my VO2Max is Very Low

So in summary:

BMI: Obese
Belly circumference: High risk of caridovascular dissease
Body Fat Percentage: Significantly Elevated
Blood pressure: Normal
Cholesterol: Total cholesterol is Moderately Elevated, HDL cholesterol is not high enough and LDL cholesterol is too high
Triglycerides: Moderately Elevated
Blood sugar: Normal
VO2Max: Very Low

This is scary stuff.

I knew I was overweight – that’s clearly visible by looking in the mirror and getting on a scale.

But what I didn’t know was just how bad my inside was.

It’s scary to have 8 red markers and only 2 green ones.

So scary in fact that I’ll immediately change my 2 times a week mountain bike training and a general more healthy diet compared to the past ten years to a specific diet, nutrition and fitness plan.
