I’m starting out on the Master Cleanse Diet aka the Lemonade Diet today.
Mark Joyner mentioned it on his blog and coming from Mark I decided to have a look into it.
It’s called a diet, but I look more at it like a detox – or a cleanse.
Made up of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper it’s an all-fluid diet/detox.
The idea behind it is to cleanse all the nasty stuff that has accumulated on our insides that is preventing us from getting proper benefits of the food we consume.
By cleaning out the toxic buildup it also takes the load off the internal organs that are working overtime trying to keep our insides cleaned.
When I initially looked at the Master Cleanse Diet it seemed to lack something – especially since it spoke against taking any supplements while doing it.
But looking at the nutrients in the lemons, the maple syrup and even the cayenne pepper has put my mind enough to rest to go ahead and at least give it a try.
I’m still not too happy about the calorie intake though.
You’re supposed to drink between 6 and 12 glass of the lemonade each day.
Each glass is 2 tablespoons maple syrup and half a lemon.
The maple syrup adds up to 2*52 calories = 104 calories per glass
The lemon juice adds up to 0.5*22 calories = 11 calories per glass
That’s a total of 115 calories per glass.
And totals 1380 calories per day if you drink all 12 glass.
With my current amount of exercise per week, my current weight and my height I’m looking at a 1.5 kilo weight loss per week based on the reduced calorie intake alone.
My concern is that a low calorie intake like this will damage my metabolism, but I’m hoping that the metabolism increase I expect to gain from the different nutrients in the juice – especially the various vitamin B’s – will outweigh it.
And loosing 1.5 kilo per week while exercising a few days a week while on an all-fluid diet isn’t really that worrying.
So, after consulting Google to figure out how to convert the measurements in ounzes and quarts to something useful for me and my metric system upbringing I’m ready to start.
